this past weekend i went to Malaga which is a coastal city:
We left on friday night and it was like a 4 hour drive on a bus from Cuidad Real (south of madrid). and we found our hostel okay!! :) i felt so european staying a hostel!!
A hostel for those of you who aren't aware is just a cheap place to stay where you pay for you night by bed. you stay in a room with a bunch of beds and most likely people you don't know. its a cheap way for young people to travel :)
The drive was INCREDIBLY beautiful though through lots of mountains and when there weren't mountains there were just fields :) Spain and apparently all of europe is all into different energy sources so there are literally miles (or should i say kilometers hehehe) of sunflowers that they use for biodeisel. i took this picture for my lovely lady meeshie :)
Malaga was such a beautiful city and we just wandered around friday night and got food:
Then on saturday we drove about 30 minutes to a really nice beach and stayed there until like 6:
I bought myself some 7 euro shade and was happy unburnt camper for the day! It was while i was soaking up the sun with a beautiful breeze blowing that I realized: i think everyone else on earth that doesn't have texas beaches as their regular beach experience actually has a pleasant experience at the beach. So far I have been to the pacific in california, the gulf IN mexico, and now the mediterrean and this is what i have noticed. everywhere else has an actual breeze. you don't just sit in your sweat and burn. there is a legitimate need for a casual beach sweater in other parts of the world. who knew all those magazines and models i scoffed at in their covered up beach attire were actually normal? way to go spain for opening my eyes to fabulous beach experience :)
this is me in the MEDITERRANEAN SEA!! :)
After the beach we went back to the hostel and had dinner there for 5 euro we got a GIANT dish of paella and a drink :) yay cheap delicious homemade meals!
On Sunday we drove through Grenada on our way home and went to La Alhambra which a giant compound of moorish palaces and a citadel. it was just palace after palace and fantastic building after fantastic building. with gardens and fountains like everywhere you looked. it was so beautiful and i had a blast there. mmmm if i ever have the means i want to hire a gardener and just have flowers EVERYWHERE. because lets be honest people i don't have the attention span to maintain a garden.
And of course this place was on a hill so it came equipped with fantastic views
Yep the Alhambra was super neat.
So all in all a pretty fantastic week.
The everyday week is a lot of me just going to school and loving spain but still just day to day activities. I have a ton of work because after all i am in summer school, but dr. olivera's philosophy is to make us do a ton of work during the week and then nothing on the weekends because he wants us to have the spanish experience. so this weekend i will go to lisbon, portugal (thanks ticket to ride for showing me where that is :) hehe) and i will try and keep posting as often as i get the chance! but i like sleep too :) hehe
love you all and miss you,
Emily
